You're pretty well SOL there, at least as far as I know. Apparently you can get the Action Replay Max Evo that will allow you to play AVI files burnt to a CD, but aside from that, I'm not really aware of any way to do it.

You could always do what I did, and buy a cheap DVD player with DivX playback and just burn all your AVI files to a disk.

Or you could find a program that transcodes the video to mpeg 2 and the audio stream to AC3 or whatever else DVD players support.

All the transcoding stuff can be done in virtualdub with a couple of free codecs, but people seem scared of that program so i don't know what to reccomend.

I only suggested the DVD player because, well, it plays DivX files.

As far as getting this all up and running on his PS2 goes, I'm pretty sure he's up shit creek without a paddle, unfortunately.

I have some .AVI movies and some friends wanna see em on a DVD player, so I wanna know how I can burn one .AVI movie to a DVD so that my friends can watch em normal on a DVD player.

I heard you can convert them but can someone recommend a good program or FAQ to do it ?

I'm pretty sure a burned DVD made from a transcoded avi is the same as a directly copied DVD, and I have personally played both types on my PS2 anyway.

Do you have a mod chip? I did not think that the PS2 could play anyform of Burnt DVD. Then again, i could be wrong.

I think theres a program where you can stream AVI files from you PC to PS2, not exactly what you wanted but same results kinda lol.

My friend burned me 2 DVD's one of ninja scrolls and one of spirated away, both play perfectly on my PAL totally unmodded PS2. No chips, no bootdisks, no voodoo spells. Is it rare for a PS2 to accept burned DVDs?

maybe you tried DVD+Rs, which are less compatible than the DVD-Rs that worked for me?

No, it's not rare for your PS2 to play burned DVD's. The older units have trouble doing it, but sometimes actually manage it nontheless. The newer ones actually have that feature built in. If you see a yellow +/- symbol on the bottom of the box, that PS2 will play DVDR's, + and -. Of course, that only applys to movies, though that should be rather obvious.

EDIT: What you cannot however do is simply burn an AVI to a DVD and expect it to work. That's not a format the PS2 can read from disk, so it won't work. Now, if you find a way to convert the files to .vob format or whatever format it is that DVD players read, then that could work.

There are programs, such as the afformentioned AR Evo, or the Media Player program that allows you to stream video from your PC to PS2 that will allow you to watch AVI files, but simply burning them to a DVD and popping them into your PS2 is pretty much out of the question...
