Default How can I get acceptable Framerates in Halo PC

I would like to play Halo PC, but I always get crappy framerates. I put it on the lowest possible settings for everything yet I can still get higher framerates in Doom 3 on High settings. I am lucky if I get 30 FPS while playing the game.

I have an Athlon 3000+ and a GeForce FX 5200. latest drivers and direct x 9.0c

Although I can't recall them myself, there are command lines that change what shader version the game runs in. Changing them around worked wonders for me.

This may have some helpful hints in it, and I think that this talks about the shader commands etc. I haven't read through them, but they seem to be decent at first glance.

Halo was very poorly ported for the lower end systems, so i see where you are coming from. It did run ok though with my Geforce 5200 when i had it, on low of course. Definatly read that guide, because it can only help.

I just found the -use11 command. That greatly helps out with the framerates. I also don't notice much visual difference. Thanks.

Yeah. I just havne't really played it but a handful of times and just starting using my PS2 controller to play it. I got it now where i can run at a full 30 FPS. I will now try to take that cap off to see if I can set the settings any higher.

Is DMA enabled? If you are using Win98 you can right-click on My Computer, click Device Manager, expand Disk Drives and select the Hard Drive (Make sure it's not the floppy ) Then click Properties and in the new window select DMA and click okay.

You could also set your computer up as a network server to reduce multiplayer lag by, in the System Properties window you opened before, select Performance and then File System. In the new window there should be a List Box that probably has Desktop Computer select; select Network Server instead.

Halo always had a problem with the FX 5200, using the command lines, or changing the effect options will fix it.

And I agree halo was not ported well, like Dino Crisis 2 and Breath Of Fire 4.

Like I said, it's not what proc/ram/os you have, it's all about the Graphics Card that is in ur pc, as some of the FX series does not support alot of effects or textures

FX cards are great budget cards tho
And in future I think game companies should spend more time on compatability for graphic cards when porting from console to pc.

I get the same problem, I run a GeforceFX5600XT 256MB, but I think it's my processor, which only runs at 1.9GHz.

    Microsoft Windows 98SE/Me/XP/2000
PC with 733 MHz equivalent or higher processor
    128 MB of system RAM
1.2 GB available hard disk space
8x speed or faster CD-ROM drive
32 MB T&L capable video card required
Sound card, speakers or headphones required for audio
Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
56.6 Kbps or better modem or LAN for online play; broadband to run a server

Thats the spec, and like I said, it's a problem with the FX series.
Turning off some special effects and using command lines will help.
