Default Ready to Buy an XBOX

Hey guys. I have enough money and I think I'm ready to buy an XBOX. I just want to know if it's worth it. I already have a PS2 and Gamecube, and XBOX is really starting to appeal to me. I heard there was a second generation with smaller controllers (known fact) and its not supposed to overheat, crash or give disc read errors. Is that one true? I'm not looking for one word answer cause that wouldn't do much for me. I just want to know yes or no and why. Thanks alot guys!!!

xbox is a nice system, unlike when it first came out there isn't just one good game for it that should be the only reason you get it. In fact there are a number of excellent games for it coming out within a year, so instead of select titles you should expect to see a much larger range of quality games.

    my advice get it.
So I make games now sort of. Check the out the one I have in the IGF this year, its totally free: www.mackvswindows.com

I finally got it....One problem!!!! Halo doesn't load. It gets to the main menu and when after select the profile it goes to a black screen and doesnt load. It worked once and locked up. Now the game just refuses to boot. I'm pretty sure its the game. Cause it plays my CD's and everything. But Halo refuses to boot!!! Please help!! Ive had it for about an hour!

EDIT: The game works. But after I deleted the info from my HDD. That normal?

If the DVD is bad take it back and get it exchanged. It's rare for a DVD to be pressed wrong but i can happen.

Well, thanks guys for your help. Everything works fine now. I am still wondering why the only way I got Halo to boot was from deleting Halo information from the HDD on the XBOX. Now the game runs fine. Weird stuff....Thanks again!

Yes it is i know a couple of people that work in the Xbox help desk for some god know reason data on some of the Xbox HDD gets stuffed up and wont load the games anymore one really bad example would be Dave mirra Pro BMX 2 every copy me and my friend had the file would stuff up in or when we went to start the game

Yeah, if your data goes bad you need to erase it from the XBOX dashboard before your game will work properly. Just removing profiles/saves/whatever from inside the game will not always work, as that doesn't usually remove all the data that the game saves to the HDD.

One more question. Can XBOX play copied Music CD's? I've placed plenty of CD-R's into the XBOX and it gives me a Read Error. I just say "That's Microsoft!" They have more copywrite protection it comes out of their asses. So I'm guessin it doesn't play CD-r's?

CD-Rs are not readable, I found that out when I attempted to make the perfect GTA Vice City personal soundtrack, so I had to just find whatever regular music cds I could find.

Actually, if or if not an xbox can read CD-R's depends on the dvd driver installed, there are 3 different brands, and each one has a new and an old version (depending on the version of your xbox, if you bought one recently and it hasnt been in stock you should have v1.5 or 1.6, but i dont know what brand)
i have an xbox 1.1 with a siemens drive and it can read all CD-r's (music,data,mp3s) perfectly (You have to mod your xbox if you want to play games/listen to mp3s from cd-r's but its possible if your dvd supports it, which yours does not)

Never heard of a Siemens drive there Ifrit. The three drives are Thompson, Phillips, and Samsung. The latter 2 will usually read CD-Rs, while Thopsons are the crappiest and dont.

I just bought it yesterday, so I guess maybe they are cracking down on things like that. Eh who knows....

EDIT: Matter of fact I got the last one out of 5 stores that carried electronics. Got it from target. Bestbuy was sold out, CompUSA was sold out, an other Target was sold out, and WalMart was sold out. Got lucky. So I'm guessing it's a v1.5/v1.6

*Goes To buy Cd's for his XBOX since it wont read cd-r's *
