SDK means Software developement kit. It'll let you switch to debug mode and release versions of DirectX as well as configure some additional DirectX settings. As well as letting you change between using your video card or the software mode Direct3d, however as I said before the software rasteriser is really freakin slow.

It might do, it might be JUST playable. But the chances are slim...worth a shot though, what have you got to loose?

Goto the control panel, and run the new DirectX control panel item. It should be in there. You might have to switch to the debug DirectX, look for anything that says "force software" or "software rasteriser" or "reference driver". If you get into any problems install the 'release' DirectX.
