Did you actually read the article?

However, the researcher who discovered the holes said he doesn't consider the flaws to be serious and still recommends installing SP2.
The fact is you're better off with SP2 than without it.

Thanks for the warning, but this doesn't surprise me, especially when the Service Pack comes from Microsoft. Those dickheads wouldn't know a flawless update if it came up, bit them on the ass and said "I'M A FUCKING FLAWLESS UPDATE!!!"

Meh I read it, I just figured I'd wait until a few more things are fixed. Just wanted to let the people here know. Although I'm better off with it I'll stick to what I've got right now, it's done me no harm so why ditch it.

    Why not?

This is actually a good attempt by Microsoft to patch the holes they've found.

And DN, you try releasing a bug free OS composed of thousands, maybe millions of lines of code. It can't be done.

The only reason why I haven't installed SP2 yet is due to some software issues. There's a few games and programs that SP2 renders useless. As soon as those issues, along with a few others, are remedied, I'll install SP2.

Let's say I know this guy who has a burned copy of WindowsXP and a FCKGW serial. Would he be able to run SP2? I mean, I've heard stories man. Reeeal bad stories.

If he has such a serial, windows update will recognize it and won't let him update anything critical, such as SP1 and SP2.

You see, those holes are bi-passing SP2. What that means is that the holes are also there without SP2. So if someone wants to get it, youre screwed either way lol

    Cough.

Of course, you could either use a product key switcher, or get the full SP installs.

Yeah, I'm just not getting why people are like "I'm not installing SP2!!~" other than for the reason that they hate Microsoft (the exception being the few software incompatibilities they do have, which is a legitimate concern).

Yes, SP2 has some flaws. So does SP1. So does native WinXP if you never install anything off of Windows Update. The point is, your machine is more secure the more updates you install for it. And if your machine is more secure, then that means it's less likely to be used to send my machine a hundred spam emails every day, DOS a website I like, etc. It's a global community and your decisions affect everyone else within it.
