I need help, all my emulators stopped working!

Hey yo,

A couple days ago, more than half of my emulators stopped working. I'll try to explain the best I can with three examples: I use Project64 (good system, fast, easy). Yesterday I went on my computer to play it, popped it up just as it normally pops up, but when I double-clicked on a game to play, it fullscreened (just as it normally does) but then froze with a black screen. Without hesitation, I went to my ZNES (good system, cool lokking) and my Virtual Boy (ok) which I in fact played a few days ago. They did the same (only they froze black as soon as they opened). THIS SUCKS ASS! I CAN'T PLAY MY GAMES! Could someone help me or give me advice. If this works out, I may be considerable in offering roms to share. Thanks alot. .... !!!!!

Clearly just a sign of the apocalypse. Pack your bags, and move to Antarctica.

Or, try a few things. Get rid of spyware, viruses, and I'd reinstall directX and drivers. Report back then.

This sounds like corruption to me. Recently the file system was corrupted on my 160gb hdd and it slowly corrupted folders. I lost quite a few games with that. Backup and reformat.

Yea, that was my next suggestion. But let's try something a little less drastic first, shall we?

how does something get corrupted? (might've happend in some sort of form to me)

This is "Me" with the emulator problem. I didn't mention that I did in fact reinstall DirectX. I just ran spyware scans and the emulators still don't work. I'm going to run a virus scan, but before I do, does the driver "bridge" sound any familiar? Because on startup the computer says its missing from the Windows drivers.

Well, update your graphics and audio drivers, among anything else that you think might need updating. If that fails, backup and format, like Winged said.

It must be something to do with 'blue screens'

Have you tried replacing/reinstalling the emulators and plugins? Does this happen with PC games as well?

Uh, oops, yea! Try that first too! I must be getting old or something....

See, what I don't like is when you DeFrag or Format and your comp runs slower than it did before, that leads to a real, "what the fuck?" type moment!

Well, it's really hard to diagnose such a problem on so little information. My machine, I have a problem, I can usually figure out what caused it without going to such drastic measures, becuase it's my machine, I know what's going on for the most part. But of course, if I can't figure it out, I would rather format and be happy than let the problem fester.

So PetMetroid, after you try some stuff, report your findings, and give us some more info (system specs, OS, try what mushindo said). Formatting can suck if you are unprepared.
