Thread: PC RPG recommendations.

    Default PC RPG recommendations.

Right, so. I'm looking for new PC RPGs to waste my time on. I've played through several "classic" games and series like Icewind Dale, BG, Morrowind, Fallout, PS:T and so on already, so try and prioritise older and/or less known games. I'm looking for "pure" RPGs with focus on characters and story, and I'd be happier with a dark, depressive thing than a light and cheerful one.
I'm also of the opinion that these "request" threads are better when one specifies what they're looking for.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. The story can be as dark as you make it
    Then there's Diablo.
There was this one sick twisted game back in the day. I can't for the life of me remember what its name was. Though, by today's standards, the game may be considered tame, the story is still pretty dark.

I suggest Arcanum and/or Arx Fatalis. I haven't actually played arx Fatalis myself, but have heard nothing other than praise for it. Arcanum, on the other hand, I own and love dearly. It is part of the Sierra classics range, so you'll be able to pick it up cheaply, and it's a hell of a game. Think of Fallout, but open-ended and a hell of a lot more complex. That's it mechanics wise, style-wise it's all steamengines and magic. Very cool game.

I have Arcanum as well. Haven't played Arx Fatalis though, I'll check it out.

Any MMORPG should be fine if you can find a private server or dont mind paying a monthly fee.
Try Neverwinter Nights if you haven't already.

There are MMORPGs that focus on character development and storyline?

I've played Arx Fatalis a little. It has gameplay similar to Morrowind, with some differences. I won't spoil the storyline, but I can assure you it's quite different from that of Morrowind.

I thought Septerra Core was, to borrow a term from the Brits, alsolutely pants. Pants being bad.
Granted, I never got that far into it, but I just didn't find much to like about it. Perhaps I should give it a second chance, but that would require finding a copy of it. Ah well.

Not being one to disagree with me old chap crusher, but I too also heard that Septerra Core was a bit crap. Still, 'heard' being the operative word - I never played it myself so I cant really judge, but if the opinion of it being shite is widespread then the omens arent good.

Well, I haven't played it THAT much but from what I played, I thought it was great. I really need to get my hands on it again.
