computer troubles keep comming my way....
This is getting really annoying. I bought a new floppy drive for my computer today and after I installed it, the same happened with the old one! My computer just won't recognize it! I know all the cables are plugged in properly and the hardware is compatible with my computer because I bought it from my manufacturer. I really don't know what to do, this is driving me crazy, I just want to erase the whole hardrive and start over except I can't because my dad "has important stuff on there" which I told him I would make backups of but he still says no... Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!! Ok, now that my rant is over does anyone have any idea of how to help me solve this problem?

Have you tried a bunch of different disks?

It's not the fact of it not reading disks but the fact that it doesnt recognize the drive...
Is there something wrong with your motherboard? That could be the problem.

Oh, before seeing your post I was just about to say that it could be your mobo....
Guess winged's stealing my thunder.

How can I check if my mobo is messed up?

You could try to find and update drivers for it.

Is that in windows update?

It should be plug and play since it is a FLOPPY DRIVE. Not any complexities there. But since the old floppy drive didnt work, the drivers may be corrupted or deleted. I would repair the copy of windows. Just put the CD in and it'l pretty much guide you through the rest. As for the mobo, look to see if there is any obvious damage on the cord/and cord port to the 3 1/2 inch devices. Unplug it all to see if any prongs or pins are missing, etc.

I would check for spyware/viruses/trojans etc. then reinstall the drivers just to be sure
