The way how it works: After you got enough respect (killing cops, killing rival gangmembers, complete missions) you can get yourself a crew. It starts with a max of 3 members, and ONE of them can be controlled with the second controller. GTA meets Double Dragon.

That's not exactly right. There are missions in which you can step on a specific icon that will allow a second player to join in the mission. The only catch is that both players have to stay within a certain distance of each other. Oh, and the second player is usually like...CJ's girlfriends and whatnot.

So yeah, you can't just sit there in anticipation of two-player missions, but it's not exactly as you described. At least not in IGN's review of the game...
