Old Sega ROM

I'm trying to remember the name to an old sega game. It had a really weird battle system. There were squares of area. For example, an archer shought diagonally across the squares. There were a bunch of different characters. Ummmm... I think the start-up screen had like a crystal ball or something. Sorry, I don't remember much about it. If this sounds even vaguely familiar, please tell me what game you think it is.
