[req] Sega Naomi Arcade Roms

does anyone know where to get roms for the sega naomi arcade board (DOA2, House of the Dead 2, anything from around that period from Sega, Tecmo, Namco, etc.)

I believe those would all be Dreamcast ROMs, as the Naomi board was the Dreamcast board...

the naomi was dreamcast-based, not a dreamcast. regular dreamcast gds won't work on a naomi, which, at least in its earlier versions may have actually used rom chips not gd-roms. newer naomis do use gds though.

also, unless you have a naomi arcade system sitting around at home, having naomi games won't do much good. mame can't play 'em and its at least possible that they'll never be emulated.

there ARE unlicensed mame emulators lol that will run naomi

but i won't get one and instead play my games on the dreamcast

i truly have no idea where to get them, but i know they exist because the guy at retro-roms ranted about it for 20 minutes in his latest news "brief" :\

Sounds to me like the guy just wanted to feel important...

There are no DC Emu's that will read a GDROM, because there are no PC's that will read a GDROM (Unless you count States' instructions, and I am not trashing a CDROM...no offense States...). Therefore, there can't be a MAME emu that will run anything but a ROM. If he was counting the DC ISOs, he was mistaken, because to play the ISOs on a Naomi emu, that would also make DC emu possible, and as we all know, there are no DC emu's out yet that really do anything. Naomi boards (AFAIK) never had ROM chips, they were all GDROM based. The only way I see a remote chance that it might work is with the serial cable, and to do that you also need a DC, so why emulate a DC on a PC from a DC with software that doesn't exist for the PC?

Interestingly enough, I recently saw a Naomi Board, and GDROM for sale on Ebay for $100 each. My knee jerk reation was "BUY", but then I thought about what little I could actually do with it, short of building an arcade console.

Naomi games were available as cartridges. These were more expensive, and were the only option available when the Naomi was first introduced.

A GD-ROM attachment was later developed, which made games cheaper, but added load times.

The fact that a PC cannot read GDs is not the reason why a Dreamcast emulator is not possible. I have plenty of Dreamcast games sitting on my hard drive at the moment, as disc image files. ePSXe can handle disc images just fine, and it's my preferred method for playing games.

The reason there's no truly functional DC emulators available is because:

1. The system is incredibly complex. It's a next-generation console, and in many aspects more powerful than the PS2, for which emulation is still very much in it's infancy.

2. There is enough documentation available on the Dreamcast hardware, and so it's a very long and tedious process, trying to find out what does what and how it does this.
