Thread: how do i know which port to plug my audio card into?

    Default how do i know which port to plug my audio card into?

    So when i get my audio card i need to know which port to plug it into.I heard there are like "pci" slots and "agp"slots.Which is which?Mine all look the same.I have like 6 slots,one taken up by my graphics,the other taken up by a modem and another by some other thing....so how do i know which is which?Help!

    the one im getting is a pci 2.2 just so yah know.....

    U cannot have more than 1 AGP ports on your mb.
    Modems cant (!) be on agp slots.
    So install sound in slots that look alike with modem slot.

    PS. What mb do u have ? Hope u dont have ISA ports there...

    whats wrong with ISA ports? they still use some ISA architectures, EISA (enhanced industry standard architecture) is still used, but not much. Like urn said, AGP stands for Accelerated Graphics Port, so a modem or sound card won't go in to it. AGP slots are the brown ones, furtherest back from the case. PCI is the white slots, closer the back of the board then the AGP.

    Well to finnally answer your question I showyou two pictures then you can see which slot is a PCI and a AGP

    Well, i dont know how to explain how looks ISA and PCI.
    I just know them, but i cant explain
    So i asked...

    First things first take youre old graphics card out and try and put the new one in, and if that dosent fit then it will fit into the other one
