What's the effectiveness of .7z files to .rar?

obviously, it would be a lot easier to upload games (and download) if all my rars were in better format, and i've seen good stuff regarding the 7-zip format (not to mention it's Open Source )

.7z compresses files more than .rar

For larger files .7z compresses more, for smaller files .rar is the way to go.

.7z is good for compressing ps and dc isos but .rar is better for most n64,gba, and snes roms

7zip is better for everything for me. The only problem is that it isn't as popular and widely used as WinRAR.

I use winrar for everything basically, it worx, but i use 7zip for bug files, i shrunch 2gb to 650mb using 7zip and i fit it onto a cd

I also like &zip because it can read all the formats WinRAR can read (If it doesn't it reads most of them), and it can read a few more. It can't make WinRAR files, but I don't need to do that. I just need to read them, which is something 7z can do.

Very interesting, but I would like to see comparisons (benchmarks if you will!) of compressing the same sets of data, some big some small and a mixture.

Also, is 7zip as safe as rar? for corruption issues and such.
