    Question Computer Video Editing Software

What are some good programs that edit video? I am looking to enhance sound and diminish ambient noise so that everything sounds much clearer. I would also like to enhance video quality. IF there is such a program/s out there that does this, I would love to know just what it may be. Also, What is the best hardware that streams analogous video to the computer? I intend on backing up our family video archives to DVD

If these questions have all ready been entertained, please forward me to them

hmm well, if you want to edit the sound I'd use ACID, but I dunno if it can improve quality... it'll take down noise level. Also for sound pending on what format the video is you could use cool edit pro 2.0....

As for video I know of no quality improving video programs, never have had to use one nor look for one. I have used the crappy windows movie maker thing.... not too great but it'll edit vdeo, but not improve it.

    um yea. toodles.
So I make games now sort of. Check the out the one I have in the IGF this year, its totally free: www.mackvswindows.com

I can reccomend virtualdub, found at http://www.virtualdub.org/
If its missing a feature you need, you can just get it as a plugin, its quite an efficient and usefull program, im surprised im the first to reccomend it in this thread.

It's a great tool, but sometimes it doesn't really increase the quality of videos, since it's mainly a compression tool. However, if you can find the proper plugins then sure, eat your heart out.

is it really free? I mean you pay a liscence for windows (substandard) operating system and it comes with that, so I ouwlkd argue it is not free by any means.

Macs can emulate windows pretty well. Fact remains, software is free and not many PCs don't have some form of windows. BTW how much software and hardware work with linux? Yeah, not much. The list may be growing but for right now, linux is too much hassle for normal use. Hate windows all you like, but without it, the consumer computer world would not be where it is right now. For better or for worse, and worse again.
