Whooo, this was the worst thing that ever happened to me. Recently, we just got this snowstorm, and the main roads were plowed, the backroads were kinda plowed. Anyway, there's this part in the backroad that's like a little hill, that makes a small turn and another turn again to continue where you were going (it really looks like it's just avoiding a tree, so it's almost like an "S".)
So there I was going 10 MPH, but a van was coming in at the other lane, so I had to use the other one (covered with snow, but I slowed down thinking it was enough). Usually, cars go through the center of that turn, ignoring the yellow lines because the turn is that small. Well, using the brakes locked up the car and it kept going. Now here's something you don't know about this particular turn, there's a log down the hill that will flip your car if you flipped, and a ditch with running water waiting for you at the bottom to complete it.
I was right at the edge, looking down right at the ditch. The van went off, I wasn't mad at it, he probably didn't notice. I stepped out of the car, and what really saved it was the whole bottom part of my car working with what little friction it had at the edge of this ditch.
The back-left side of my car was easily 4-feet in the air, I called the police and the tow truck (took the tow truck a nice while but oh well) so I was having a nice chat with the policeman, we were even laughing and talking about movies.
Well back to the car; it was so close to falling over that if I had one person on the passenger seat, or if I even went 3 more miles an hour (I'm a careful driver ) that would've been the end of the car hands down.
Finally, the tow-truck comes, pulls the car off. Absolutely NO damage whatsoever to it. Still rides smooth, not even the wheels need realligning. We said our goodbyes and I drove to school right from the scene.
Looking back on it, I shouldn't have counted on the breaks, I should've let it go and roll (physics would easily tell us to do this, but as it's happening, panic took over). Also, it was a narrowly plowed street, with the center really being the only plowed part. I should've stopped and let the other car go through and then go on. The whole thing I guess was just due to a lack of inexperience. Luckily, I wasn't hurt, the car wasn't damaged, and I didn't get a ticket or added points to insurance.
