Default File sharing over network in XP. You know how come here.

    Hi.
I have just bought a Linksys router and a Wireless 802.11g PCI card to go with it. I have my internet working on the computer with the wireless card, but I can't share files between the two computers.
I have run the Network Wizard in Windows XP many times, but neither computer can "see" the other one. They both have XP Home.

Does anyone know of anything that I could possible be doing wrong. I will give a 5 to anyone that can help me.

Right click on the drive in My Computer. Look for the file shareing tab.

I know about that, but I'm not that far yet. I can't even get to differnet computers to "see" each other when you click the workgroup thingy in the Network Places thingy.

Okay make sure they're both on the same workgroup (XP Home "shouldn't" have this problem but it still does some of the time). Do a ping test.

They were on the same workgroup, but that didn't work.

Do you have a firewall? I came across that prob once and it waz my firewalls blocking each other out. If so reconfigure them to be albe to "see" each other and if that don't work try turning them off. I had to turn mine off when I wanted to share a file (your router may also be doing the same thing)

I have a firewall, but I turned them off. I will double check though. I am trying more things.

My friend helped me through it, and we got it working.
