my current desktop isn't that old. I have heard a lot of people recommend mint I had been meaning to look into it but I have been putting it off.
The slightest inconvenience has people running for the hills of what they know . I don't like Mint myself but it might be an okay starting point.

as I've said I heard a lot of people recommending it over other distros the other one I've seen recommended often was Ubuntu(I'm not sure I spelled that right)

The computers suck sig image I'm using links to the best Linux.org sponsored distros. I like Lubuntu because it's lightweight and I don't like bloat, Mint is a good choice but not as lightweight.

Edit:// as soon as I posted that a lightning bolt struck so close it might have been less than 100 yards. Speaking of computer maybe I should shut down network for a bit. One thing about lightning, you can approximate how far a strike is in mile by the seconds of time when you see it and when you hear it as thunder.

I'd be lying if I said that I dislike Windows for no reason, knowing enough about it is to know its flaws and it has many.

Ubuntu (Canonical) is like the MS of the Linux world or so I've heard; they want all Linux to follow their lead. Mint is based on it as far as I know. One of the root distributions would probably be best unless you have reasons to favor one of the derivatives. You can try as many versions as you have the patience to download and install on a VM .

I like Slackware in my limited usage. I was going to trial that and Void but I need to replace my monitor before I can. I missed an opportunity and am being cheap .

Windows needs to fix everything by not giving default user root and taking off the training wheels with SUDO and command line.

Knowing MS they'd still want to make hacked computer repair a cottage industry and purposely design it to crash and burn.

I just shat an epic turd and when I looked into the toilet there was nothing there, not convinced my toilet isn't a portal to a parallel universe's toilet drain.
