This console came with stock Core Grafx composite cable set so I might grab a cheap MD2 composite cable set to check out the av port on the SSDS3... also RGB cable whenever I get around to it. But honestly the latter isn't a huge priority, I don't mind old consoles like this via composite on my crt

The newer SSD thing has HDMI out even. But yeah I've found PCE composite to be generally fine.

I just got a briefcase back from getting some repairs and svideo modded via the PC engine itself. So I can do Svid from that or composite from the interface unit still. Have an everdrive in the hucard slot and am using better independent firmware for it and can spoof the system cards other than Arcade.

ETA: Usually cleaning will do the trick on the controller. I assume sticky buttons or some such? I had one recently where the contact pins that go into the console were recessed. :/

yes it does that's what I used in the past with a wired direct connection to my laptop.it beats the hell out of using usb. that was the 2nd thing I re-installed first was rebug toolbox.

I usually turn RGB off. It also seems to be a trend to put a amiibo or something gameing related statue inside of a tempered glass case.

I snagged a NIB sealed PAL version TurboGrafx-16 with Blazing Lazers game years ago on eBay. Bought a v1 Everdrive, then only played it once or twice, put it back in the box and it's stuck in the back of the cupboard with all the other tat...

My case fans have green LEDs but it's off to the side and ignored. I leave my KB/mouse LEDs on but at moderate to low brightness. The KB LEDs serve a purpose in telling me which profile and/or layer is active.

I would've used lighting for profiles with my mouse years ago but it only supports auto-switching on application start. I could have assigned it to something like command prompt and ran a batch or something but I'd have forgotten more times than not I think.

I got 2 controllers with it and the other is totally fine. The one with the I/II buttons that are a little off requires some hard presses so it might just need the pcb and rubber cleaned. Worse case I'll replace the rubber.

I went for the old SSDS3 as it just seemed easier than getting IFU and cdrom2 Can't play everything but I don't need system cards or worry about the laser or drive cog.
It is easier to get hold of the official gear but would cost more, over here anyway.

And yeah, this SSDS3 is old version so doesn't have RGB "fix" and shit. Well at least I'm guessing it doesn't. Haven't opened it, but the case is transparent smoked so I can see it definitely doesn't have fix boards added to the original pcb.

Yeah it's a great solution that is fairly future proofed. There is also that new everdrive that lets you just...play cd games with only a base PCE. Really neat. Expensive of course and doesn't give you the video outputs the ssds3 does. I'm just rocking with a 2.5 turbo everdrive.

I like messing with the old gear. I'm also doing a lot of proxy buying and re-selling some of the stuff. Took some patience but I was able to win some lots where I ended up with great deals. I was at $0 into the full IFU set-up before mod costs. I don't trust myself to do that stuff. Still ended up with not much money in it.

I'm waiting on a switching power supply to arrive before really digging into some games.
