That's how I use my Bluray Drive. New PC cases don't really have a place to put a CD/DVD/Bluray Drive. I mean I'm sure you could make it work if you really wanted to, but using a USB cable adapter isn't bad.

don't really need to do that as I have an external dvd already and again if it's not a power drain and I don't need the power plug for anything there's no reason to unplug it.

I can get it cheaper on ebay unless I buy from soem chinese seller on amazon I'll have to pay shipping and tax(and probably have to wait weeks or months) thankfully I can save myself $5+ on a dvi cable since I already have one.
