The power company has to be present as well so I don't think any of them are likely to be too dumb .

You might find the cheaper quotes will end up more expensive anyway. Because reasons.
Even if that doesn't happen I would expect they'd leave a mess you need to clean up, either yourself or pay someone to do it.

I don't know how it works in Aus. but I don't pay for stuff until the job is done and I check in on the work from time to time. I'd certainly rather clean up some trees and shovel down some dirt versus spending another $7k .

Power company doesn't force people to stick to a specific time frame or clean up. They just make sure things are done according to law/legislation.

Dunno what it's like over there but I would think there would be even more cases of cowboy tradesmen than over here. Your system is designed for profit and not much in the way of worker's rights or anything else... so you're going to see more unprofessionalism.

Well if you have the time to clean up a mess then there's no reason not to save some money. Many people don't have the time though and pay others. Goes for a lot of things.

I'd probably do the same thing myself.
But I have a trailer, access to a proper 4wd, also have chainsaws and other tools to deal with a lot of stuff.

Worse case is they drop trees across a fence or your driveway... similar shit like that. Then you need to use the law to force them to pay for damage. Crap like that can drag out though so I tend to avoid dealing with people that have really low quotes. It always seems suspicious and I can't be bothered with possible headaches that can drag on for years.

For that kind of money you could have it cleaned up for you and still spend less overall. I could understand one, two, maybe three thousand more but not more than double.

I'd like to hope that destroying property would get their license(s) revoked. It'd be pursued if it came to that. I don't automatically go for the cheapest bids, I'm comparing to two others.

I like to spend less but I'm not a complete cheapskate.

We have a truck with 4WD and saws as well. I'd like a 24" saw but I can't justify the cost when it'd hardly get used.

My brother-in-law has a huge collection of chainsaws. I only have 2 plus a cheap electric one for trimming near the house.
All I have is an old Isuzu Trooper but the in-law has got a Toyota Landcruiser utility (ex forestry department iirc, it has a special tray with tools storage underneath).
Neither are trucks but I guess yanks might call them that The Trooper doesn't even have a tray.

We've got a Chevy C/K 1500 or 2500, I'd have to check the specific model. I've thought about a tool chest or the like for it but I figure I can shove stuff in a box if there's a lot to take somewhere.

It's a 2500, pretty sure it's the standard 5.7L. Fuel efficiency is terrible but it's only used when needed.
