What do you need to do this? Do you need a mod chip? Does it have to be burnt onto a CD-R or can it be on a CD-RW?

I've been posting before you where an ache in you fathers crotch and you have the balls to call me a spammer.
You will need a modchip if you want to play burned games on your Playstation. I have never tried before but I always hear of people using CR-R's when playing a Playstation ISO on their systems. So I'm not sure if CR-RW's work or not. I don't even have a CD Burner yet and therefore run them as ISOs on my computer using ePSXe.
I couldnt tell you wether or not cd-rw's work, but cdr's sure do. And I just used to use a swap method when I wanted to play them on my PSOne. Now I just use a no mod swap to play them on my PS2. Unfortunatly it involves removing the casing from your PS2, but it works.
I want to get some type of modchip for my PS2 but I don't want to open up the case because I'm worried I might break something. Are there any other types of modchips that don't require opening up the system to do some wiring.
Yeah, there are external mod-chips which connect to your serial port. The one's for the PSX have been around for quite a while but I'm not sure if there is one for the PS2 yet. There definitely is not one for the new PSOne however. Mod-Chip

Honestly, the way I see it is that if you are willing to take apart your PS2 for a mod chip then then the PS2 swap is easy and preferable. It works with DVD games and CD based games, though making DVD copies is not as easy as making your average CD copy. Anyway, you take the casing off of your PS2, then remove the screws from the disk drive. To get the swap working you have to own a Gameshark PS2. Load the Gameshark. The system casing needs to be off during this procedure. When the Gameshark loads, you choose "Start game without codes." Dont press a thing. Remove the disk drive casing and insert your copied game. Replace the disk drive casing after you've inserted your copied game, and then hit the X button on your controller to start the game. If everything works, your game should load up just fine. This also works with your PSOne backups.
Thanks Magus. The USB MOD for the PS2 looks pretty cool. I might get one of those
well, the PSone/PSX isn't able to read CD-RW's, these CD's need a different angle where the laser should need to go, to read the data. Normal CD's or CD-R's are just like the original black CD's, so they do work. If you need to let a CD-RW work, then the only think you can do...is to make some adjustments to your laser, it's rather difficult so don't ask me how it must be done.
The PS2 can read everything, so thats easy,
I'm just a lurker these days, I feel like an 80 year old gramps, watching his grand children play outside *sigh*
I don't think the PS2 can read CD-RWs - again the laser alignment problem.. Hmm, will try that out tonite, could be useful (I somehow have more CDRWs than CDRs.. Odd..).
