That's kind of a broad question. Obviously whatever is the newest and most powerful and probably the most expensive would do the trick

I really don't think it matters anymore. In the distant past I would have said Intel.

Yeah, unless your PC is really old (a decade or more), you don't really have to worry about it.

But if you still want some names, from personal experience I'd recommend Ryzen.

In the AMD vs Intel section, it considers the latter being better due to it having a superior single core performance. Is this true, or is this just an old article?

I can't find a date stamp but it looks oldish.

It depends on the emulator of course for the single core performance but like daky said with advent of the newer Ryzen cpu's once again I'll state I don't think it really matters anymore.

By all means go Intel if you want

Remember that emulation isn't perfect so no matter what you could still run into problems with certain games no matter what you have.

^What he said. If a game doesn't work well with emulators (I particularly refer to emulators that still have a low compatibility, such as the emulators for PS3, Xbox, PS Vita...), no rig would help it until the game's optimized, which is done by the emulator developers.

I agree, I think there is no fundamental difference between INTEL and AMD

Generally, emulation runs off the CPU, with the GPU allowing for higher resolutions, AA, etc. If your CPU isn't good enough, you can't emulate a system too well. An Intel Core i5 2500K, 3570K or 4670K or above is recommended for high end emulation (e.g. PS2, Wii).
I read all tech reviews at technumus and this is the best guider.
