    For example:
    https://www.guru3d.com/articles-page...-review,1.html

The MSRP for that card is ridiculous and the only hope of even getting that lame price is if you preorder something and the store honors it.

Looks like AMD's current gen. of APUs can handle FO4 alright enough:

You could also go for a used "gaming" laptop. Sometimes you can get a pretty decent deal on laptops but you need to be absolutely certain on the specs because the product lines are a mess. A prebuilt with a decent configuration could also work (though the usual is going to suck with that, PSU, case, HDD/SSD).

I don't think I want to go with another laptop. I was thinking a pre-built anyway but I've been out of it for a long time now so I don't know what to look for or what kind of price point to start saving for.

Doing it yourself could be done for a bit less (especially if you can avoid tax online) but you can actually get a discrete GPU with a prebuilt.

I think you could work something out at or around $700 if you do it yourself. You could do closer to $600 if you cut down on memory.

If you got a good deal on a PSU you could maybe drag it under $600.

    that sounds more reasonable.
what do you think of buying used?

Depends on what you can get at what price.

I'm figuring something like this for price breakdown:
    CPU: $260
    Motherboard: $110
    RAM: $70
    PSU: $80
    SSD/HDD : $50
    Case: $60

It could swing up or down depending on config.

did a little looking at newegg on prebuilts. I looked at ryzen 7 and intel I7 the ryzen was much more than an intel by $200-$300. I also looked at some refurbs they're running $175 at the cheapest I didn't look at ryzen 9's or I9's.
it gives me a basic idea of prices on pre-builts.
