I've gone through a few over the last couple of years. M$ and Logitech junkers mostly. Usually the scroll wheel becomes dodgy so I just turf them.
    Currently using a basic Dell.

These are all wired, but I do a few wireless that I hardly ever use.
Probably the best mouse I have is a Mad Catz RAT7... wired and old but still boxed with all parts. Seems to have had little use.

Can't remember the last time I bought a new mouse

The last mouse I got was a G502 or something like that for my XP machine for $20 or so.

I've had a lot of luck with logitech mice the last one I had(the one that broke yesterday) was like 8-10yrs it took quite a number of spills to the floor and I smacked it down plenty
so I'm thinking another one like it haven't really got to look at much else. any suggestions for a standard wired mouse under $25?

This is how I read your post

Stayed up late, woke up at about 11am on Sunday morning with about 5 hours sleep. Not super tired, but straight after having a morning piss this was the first thing my brain actually tried to process

Everything I was going to suggest has gone up in price since I bought it. The Logitech G502 and Steelseries Rival 3 or 110 are alright if you can get one cheap enough. Corsair M55 reviewed okay but it has its issues and their software is resource heavy.

Razer Naga and Deathadder are alright if you can get one of the old versions that doesn't require Synapse for full functionality.

Cheap logitech mouse from 10-15 years ago is probably way better than a cheap mouse now.

You're safe up to 2011 with Razer stuff. With the 2012 mice some of them require Synapse and others have standalone drivers.

Pretty much. It's also Chinese stuff actually creeping up a little in price but yeah I think the quality isn't improving comparatively.

As I said I never buy these things now. But if I had to I would probably look for dirt cheap NOS logitech, M$ or whatever. The bagged stuff.

This Dell I have seems to be going ok but I've only been using it since like just before covid.
One annoying thing about it is that the sensor has an exposed cavity, so the odd cat or dog hair can get stuck in there sometimes
