plugged it back in with the keyboard I accessed the bios looked through it then saved and exited after that it booted just fine it didn't freeze on the gateway screen. I forgot this thing has shitty win 8 on it and I don't have the login info for it.

would win 10 be a better option?

Is GTA: The Defective Edition worth it, if it is on sale? I see it keeps going on sale at my local shops.
Depends what platform I guess.
I got it reasonably discounted for XB1. For that platform SA was already available (but 360 version) so it's the only real way to play the other 2 games on that platform atm.
But if you're looking at PC or PS4 I would probably just
PS4 I think the original games (not sure about all 3, I need to check my backup storage) are available fpkg PS2toPS4...
Spoiler warning:
Supposedly they remade them with Unreal but I have a sneaking suspicion they just ported the ios versions.
I mean it does look better and fits the screen and controls are fixed a bit (they still suck compared to modern games) and for some reason you take wayyyy more damage than I remember from the og versions. I've still run into pop in graphics and once a bridge didn't spawn and crashed to my death. Still it depends if you really want to play them again. If you see it for 5 bucks why not? Otherwise I would just stick with the pc versions and mod them or emulate the og ones on ps2.
I'm actually playing San Andreas right now but it's included with gamepass (leaving soon though) and vice city is on ps+ but it may have left already. I dunno if they're going to switch them up when they leave.
Before definitive trilogy arrived... SA on XB1 was 360 version which, iirc, was based on android version anyway.
Even if you had original Xbox SA disc it would dl and install 360 version.
Probably still better than RE4 XB1 though, which afaik is Wii port so you can't adjust the audio so the music is loud af all the time
Spoiler warning:
I just went through the Wii version on Dolphin not long ago and it's probably one of the best I've seen, I'll have to check the audio thing.
Pretty sure the XB1 version is the re4hd port from pc - unless that in of itself was ported from the wii?
Whatever they've done you can't adjust the audio, so the "battle" music is always loud.
Yeah this game needs that music so you know when there's danger, but having it really loud drowns out other sounds and it's just horrible imo.
Seems like the steam and switch versions have the same issue:

Spoiler warning:
I've played the original Wii version years ago and yeah I didn't have an issue with it then.
Think it's the porting that's the issue.
Spoiler warning:
Got the XB1 physical version a while back, started playing it but after a while I just put it to one side. The audio is pretty distracting.
I have the volume on my tv set at a point where I can hear all the little stuff, but then the battle theme comes on and it's nearly ear rape
Pity... it looks nice.
