Yeah, At best it's trading the type of scratches. I had it work for me when I tried it, but I was attacking a particular spot on the disc. I immediately sold the "fixed" disc though

Found an X96 Mini tv box, no remote or psu but I already had a crappy old MXQ Pro and the remote & psu from that are compatible.
So I've turned my old 1080p tv into full smart tv now
Only thing I really want from this is playback of video formats (Hi10 and x265) that I've needed to convert back to standard x264.
Testing it out now, works fine
So guess I'll save some space and look at x265 now... Not sure if I'll try replacing everything I already have backed up atm though It's TB's of stuff.

I've got a bunch of tv series that I haven't finished recoding to x264 so it saves me the hassle of finishing them.
Plus in x265 the total size is much smaller, based on the few episodes I did convert to x264 for testing.
Hi10 x264 actually works on this player, the quality is better than regular x264 (DVD rips).

And yeah, for tv series BD source it makes a difference. Much smaller size, I can free up some space on my current drives to make room for other stuff.

Quality should be improved at the same bitrate and no worse at lower bitrates. I've not messed with it but that's typically the goal of new codecs.
