Went to my local mall, they had a mini arcade in the corner. Most of the games were over priced at a dollar each, and of course only in quarters. At least I got to play some House of the Dead 2, Guitar Freaks and Mario Kart GP. I won the race in MK GP, then the game asked for two quarters to go on to the next track :/ I left after that.

That's lame. Arcade games are only supposed to munch on quarters if you suck at them .

Yeah it was a pretty lack-luster arcade. If you can even call it that. All the games required two or more quarters and pretty much all the cabs were sit-down or light-gun games. Though Time Crisis 3 and House of the Dead 2 aren't bad games. There wasn't any upright cabs like say for Metal Slug or games like that. I miss arcades that walls full of games of all different types.

On archive.org twitter there was info about power outage affecting servers.
A couple of my downloads did continue but then a bunch were throwing up errors so I looked into it. Maybe not all servers are in the same place which is why you weren't affected.
The stuff I was getting was fresh uploads (that wasn't all uploaded at that point) of Dreamcast and Xbox protos. Hundreds of them.

Kind of funny how arcades went the way of the dodo in favor of home games only to end up milking everyone worse (most likely) than old arcade games did .

I'd guess that the servers for the US were mostly or completely unaffected. Is there any point to those prototype builds for games that have retail releases? If there's cut content that'd be neat but otherwise I don't get it.

for most proto/alpha builds that's the case but it's not always significant content being cut.

There are some unreleased games there (not many) but with the others they can have different content (not always cut, sometimes assets look different) to final retail and another thing is debug features.

The archive.org servers that were down due to power outage were in the US
I'm not aware of them having servers in other countries.

As I said I looked it up on twitter and there was a power outage for 8k plus customers in one area in the US, due to mist and fog.
