i have no idea how 2 run mame

i downloaded mame .72 and marvel vs. capcom rom. i extracted mame, but i have no idea which file runs it and how i load the rom. can some1 help me? thanks.

You put the ziped rom file in the ROMS folder in the mame folder.
Then you go into mame and look at the folder of roms you have. You may have to refresh.

try "audit all games" that will tell u if the game is good or not...u can have the games zipped cuz it works that way.u dont have to extract it.

i still don't understand. i just don't know how 2 run mame. in the extracted mame folder i have the following files:
*artwork *ctrlr *docs *roms *samples hdcomp mame romcmp whatsnew whatsold xml2info
*is a folder
in the "roms" folder i saved "mvscmamerom" (not extracted) also in here is a file titled "dir"
when i click on the "mame" file back in the original folder a black box comes up. a few seconds later, a message pops up titled "M.A.M.E usage information..." there is also a selection of "yes" or "no" at the bottom of the box. if i click yes a notepad file comes up.

hmmmm... lets see if i can explain this. this i how i run all my mame roms.

first, just move the zip file into the roms folder. no need to extract it.

(btw im assuming you're using windows...)

then create a shortcut to the mame.exe. goto the shortcut properties and look at the target box. it'll probably say something like C:\mame\mame.exe

just type in the name of the zip file after that

ex: C:\mame\mame.exe romname

then just run the shortcut and HOPE it runs without problems...

i tried that, but it still doesn't work. when i double click the shortcut file 2 run it it flashes the .exe window once and does nothing else.

if u mean the rom, it is in winrar format. it is titled mvscmamerom

ahhhh... thats the problem.

1. dont think mame can read rar files
2. it shouldn't be named mvscmamerom in the first place

whats inside this rar file? a bunch of files i assume?

yes, there r a bunch of files if i extract the rar file.

ok then... try this.

extract the contents of the rar into the roms folder. then change the shortcut so it has "mvsc" (without quotes) after it. then try to run it.

i think i figured out how 2 run the game, but it says required files r missing. i hink i gotta download the rom again.

Marvel Vs Capcom is a CPS2 game I believe, so you may just need to download the XOR table for the game, and add that into the zip archive.
