For most emulators.. there are two or more ways...
you can save at any time in the game that you normaly could in the real game.. and it saves just like normal...

Or you can use Save States.. which lets you save at any time..

Nesticle is a NES emulator though, and ZSNES is a SNES one so err... I don't think they're really comparable?

And with NESticle, press the F5 key (I think..) to save your state, and the F7 key to load... You may need to check under the file menu and edit the directory that the game saves to...

Why should you change the directory? There is no need of doing that :\

SNES9X gave me so much problems with my roms, so I changed into ZSNES and it works perfectly.

For NES, I reccomned Nesticle. Kinky name

Whew! OK now, I don't use Nesticle nor FCEU, but I can tell you every emulator comes with a help file (usually "readme.txt"). In it, you can find answers to basic questions, such as:

How to save your game through an .SRM, etc. file.
    How to make state saves.
    How to load state saves.
    Shortcuts to saving/loading state files.
    How to change directories.

    And a long "etc."...
Also, there's usually an option for saving/loading state save files under the "File" menu, when running the emulator. And there's also an "Options" or "Config" menu too, where you can configure your emulator settings...

    That should help... :\

Thanks, Black Mage. Now, it didn't really say "C://blah blah blah," it says, and I quote, "Unable to open
    C:\spel\8-bit\save\zelda.sta" Okay???
