Unhappy Emulate PS1 games on PS2 using freemcboot via USB

    Sooo...

After a week of derping on my own, I come to you broken lol.

Here's the skinny: I want to play ps1 games on my ps2 using Freemcboot through the USB. The games I am trying to play are often Japanese titles, (or other out of country codes) and multiple .bin files and a single .que. What if it is a ps1 .iso-which option should I use then? And lastly, what if the ps1 game comes in the format of .img .sub .ccd combo? I assume I will need different programs for each scenario... How to do?

From what I have read, when and if I get this running, I also can't save the ps1 games I am playing through the emulator on ps2 unless I have a ps1 mem card. Is that correct?

    Thanks <3

FMCB doesn't allow you to play PSX games on it's own, it's solely a method to play PS2 DVD backups.
Even PS2 CD type games need to be converted to DVD type to play via FMCB and I'm not certain all PS2 CD games can be converted successfully.

This is a way to play PSX games on PS2, but unless you have a fat model with HDD you will have issues with some games via USB:

There is also a really old slide card method:

Yes, you will need a PSX memory card for saving if you can get games working.

You are probably better off getting a real PSX console with modchip or PSIO.

Another option is to get a PS3 model 25xx or lower (that is some slims and all fats) and use PS3Xploit. You can play all PSX games on PS3 with CFW but the emulation method isn't for everyone. You can also play some PS2 titles including PS2 CD based games plus some PSP games work too.

    Edit:
Personally I just use PS3 with full CFW. I can live with the AR being a little off as the console itself has upscaling and HDMI out so it's convenient, plus it's easy and cheap to replace (you don't even need a unit with a working BD drive). I did use PSX consoles with modchip for years but those are all packed away now (I still have two units with modchips plus some spare virgin consoles).

This answers a lot of questions, thank you!

Just one thing-what about the out of country code games? How can I get around that without a hard mod?

On PS3 different regions doesn't matter. For PS3, PS2, PSX and PSP games.
I've got English translations of Japanese PSX and a least a couple of PS2 games that run fine on my PS3.

PS3 CFW isn't a hardmod, you just need a console model 25xx or lower and the right software tools. No downgrade hardware is required like the old days.

Just one other question- What can I do about a soft mod regarding country codes for ps2 as it is unlikely I will purchase a ps3 just for modding and honestly can't be bothered to do hard mods.

I didn't think PS2 regions was an issue using FMCB but maybe I'm wrong

FMCB'ed PS2 will load any region games. Even modded (hacked, translated games).
