Default Any TooL fans out there?

I am a big fan of the band TooL, and wanted to know if anyone is with me when I say that they are one of the greatest bands ever. The lyrics are poetic, and the music is often played in odd time signatures. plus, the music has a variety of sounds, while each of their albums follow a style, each style is different for each album. This varies from slow, chilled out songs with crazy sound effects that make you want to have an acid flashback, to the heavy, agressive hardrock songs.

I feel like this band needs to be recognized, is anyone with me?

Tool are ok, but rather bland and repetative actually. One of those bands that the occational song is good, but a full album is just bordem.

Then what was the point of posting in this thread? Thats kind of silly, if you dont like tool you post in a thread labeled Any tool fans...

Anyway I think Tool is a very under appreciated band. They are very innovative.

He was just posting his opinion of the band in question, I don't agree, but I can see where he's coming from.

And I don't know how you can call a band with a number 1 album "under appreciated", after Radiohead, they're probably the most mainstream band I listen to...

It's a little odd that Tool are as mainstream as they are considering the type of music they play. But I like them and they deserve their success.

Indeed. I laud and praise the heavier progressive groups like Opeth most of the time, but when I really place all the bands I listen to in perspective, Tool is my favorite band.

I would never listen to the music I do today if not for the first time I heard nima several years ago.

You are wise, Dark Wanderer. Tool is certainly one of the greatest bands of all time... they have given us so much great music in but one decade. They have transcended labels so much so that critics have resorted to referring to the band as 'Art Metal', which is quite foolish because music in itself is art... but that is beside the point. The band, especially Adam, despises the term metal.

Maynard is one of the few vocalists I know of to comprise his lyrics almost entirely from poems he has written. His vocal range is confounding. Anything you hear him belt out on a studio album he can reproduce precisely on stage. That includes 40 second-long screams...

Adam' guitar work has always stressed the melodical and many of his compositions are suprisingly easy to play. He creates these long pieces of music sprouting from a single melody he thinks of while watching television. And his use of varying time signatures is unparalleled.

Their songs are also my favorite to play. Lateralus is one of the three albums I can play in its entirety on electric guitar and bass guitar.

I know, this reply seems long... But rare it is for me to meet a fellow Tool fan... the band is very popular relative to most of the music I listen to, but few around here are fans beyond a single song. I mean, if you ask anyone on the street if they have heard of the band that person will likely say, "Oh, that's that metal group with that Schism song, right?"

When I say underappreciated, I believe they deserve more credit than they get.

I can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Then again I havent been keeping up with the music forum.

Yes, TooL is my favorite band and I agree with all the opinions Magus expressed. They are one of those bands that seem to be really well known and not too well known at the same time by the general public which is a neat trick. It's similar to NIN where "the downward spiral" is in peoples cd collections where you wouldn't expect to find it but beyond that album lots of people know nothing about them. TooL is known for their singles by most. I saw them twice, once on the AEnima tour and once on the Lateralis tour. The second show was my favorite show of all time. It's really hard to choose a favorite song because I love them all so much.
