Can't you remap the PS3 button setup?

Yes I can remap them, but there's only so many buttons to remap too. Also, it would feel more authentic to use a N64 pad.

I'd say just go for it dude. It's doesn't look all that expensive.

That usb N64 controller you linked to will just be a usb version of the cheap 3rd party N64 console controllers The sticks on them are terrible and the buttons feel bad.
I don't have a usb one myself but have a bunch of the N64 plug types, only one works ok now the rest have trashed sticks. The sticks don't feel anything like a proper N64 stick even when they're new.
A genuine N64 controller with Gamecube stick replacement would be better than that, and even those aren't the same as excellent condition genuine N64 controller.

If you get one it will probably have a huge deadzone on the stick and will respond like a digital stick.

You can get usb adapters to use real N64 controllers on PC (it's the same adapter as for the Wii U).

Honestly if you want to be cheap, what you have is the best setup. The sticks on PS1/2/3 controllers should work ok if setup properly.
You might even be able to use what you have as dual stick for GoldenEye idk for sure tho

Yeah you can. You can also use something like Xpadder and really fine tune things like the analog to more of a digital button press sort of deal.

Just sold 300 purified waters. 1200 caps. Yes please!

I wasn't sure. I know on 360 the xbla version of GoldenEye uses both sticks, and I've tested the original game using 2 controllers on N64

I've been using ps2/3 controllers for N64 emulation for years. having the c buttons mapped to the right stick has never been an issue for me then again I don't play fighting games(but to be fair most of them suck on N64 anyway)

I've been doing the same with 360/Xbone controllers and never had a problem either.

I really don't think I could map it any other way and have it work right for me.

Depending on the game you can always switch it around with the d-pad. I mapped the left and right C buttons to the left and right bumpers/ L1 and R1 once lol. Can't remember what game it was. Damn this is going to keep me up now

But yeah generally I just left them on the right stick too.

never thought about mapping them to L/R since a lot games don't use those buttons.

plus there's another set behind them if it does, L2 and R2. Z button would generally be mapped to R1 kinda like the GC controller. Or select if I do something funky like the L/R thing.
