my 3d card is shot. i've replaced it with an old S3 card for now. what is the best card for around $90-$150? i've not bought a 3d card since i bought my Voodoo 3 3000 AGP card
You can get a veryyyyyyyyyyy nice card in that price range now. Like a 128 meg/bit card. Just keep in mind the type of PC you have and most importantly the bus speed of your motherboard and try to find something at the same speed or slightly higher for optimal performance. For example don't get a top of the line Radeon if you have a Pentium2 or something like that, ya know.
Search around the net for videocards and their specifications, don't buy anything from a site but at least you will have many price quotes and an evaluation of what cards work best with what kind of system you have
edit: here's a site to get started

Well you said best for emulation and the only thing I'm going to say is that anything above (and including) GF2MX is great for emulation. Emulators at the moment don't use anything really fancy and even when the Xbox emulators come out in the next few years they will only require GF3 and above.
I would personally go for a GF3 or above. In the near future there may well be a few emulator plugins that require the usage of pixel shaders. I know Lemmy for example (Nemu guy) has already done prelimary work using pixel shaders, which eliminates any combiner problems in N64 emulation (all colours correct).
I personally with also go Geforce 3 or above. However if you wanna go for PC games as well, then I wil recommend either a Geforce 4 Ti series or Radeon 8500 or above. It really comes to what price range you have.
They are hot, aren't they??
I recommend a Geforce 4 Ti. It is in your price range, it is fast, has excellent driver support, and you will be able to play any rom you want to. Even PSX ISOs should run well.

Just an addon, if you have enough cash, get an ATI Radeon 9700 since it is one of the most powerful card in current days. It will be very good for applications, emulation, PC games, etc. However it is pretty expensive. You probably won't buy this but is good to let you know.

Even the cheapest version of the Radeon 9700 Pro, which is probably manufactured by MSI, is still north of $250 the last I checked. That is $100 out of his price range. Thank you for pointing it out anyway, Astro. We should promote my video card whenever possible.
