FTP = file transfer protocol, if you really want to know what it is then advice you read http://www.geektools.com/rfc/rfc959.txt but that's quite technical though.

I've been having problems downloading the psx isos. IE doesn't work and neither does SmartFTP. Is it a problem with the links? I see the address as something like ftp://206.152.242.121/%20%20%20%20%2...blahblah/file. I tried connecting to every possible combination of the address (cutting off at each /) and none worked.

    STATUS:> Getting listing "/"...
    STATUS:> Connecting to ftp server 206.152.242.121:21 (ip = 206.152.242.121)...
ERROR:> Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10060.
    STATUS:> Waiting 30 seconds...

I also tried pinging that address, but it times-out, so no it's not you it's the FTP server.

Ok, are server FTP programs better than cilent FTP programs? Whats the difference? I heard that I have to leave my computer on to keep the servers going, is this true?

A server is "different" not better than a client. Imagine a game of UT.
One person serves. Sometimes they run a listen server and they also play but for the big servers they don't. All the rest are clients. They connect to the server. However the clients don't connect to one another.

You can use a client to put stuff on a server, however the server can't put anything anywhere. It just acts as a server.

You'll want a client if you want to download from other people. And a server if you want others to download off you.

ok, when guildftp tells me my ip address, i get 168.192.0.1 i know this sin't right, so i go to whatismyip.com and got a much more realistic ip. but how do i make guildftp use this ip, instead of the other one. i am using internet connection sharing, on another pc, if that makes a differnece.

its ok. i found the button that asks for a custom IP. can someone test my ftp? btw, i used ntfs to split my hard drives, so i'm hosting my entire (D) drive. there is nothing on there like credit card numbers, or anything else, that drive is just for my programs and stuff. btw, check out the kazaa folder, you're bound to find something in there.

If you're on a router, get your WAN IP address. Add that as your custom IP. Also, open some ports and put them as your normal ports and passive ports.

    Default UGH!!

I have cuteftp and have been trying to DL the Suikoden ISO for ages. Anyways, I connect to 208.37.28.56 with the Username Soldat and the password rocktehep. Then the login box comes up again telling me the password is wrong. I copied it exactly, is it mistyped on the page? or has it changed? Im at a loss here, thanks for the help.

i was trying to download harvest moon back to nature with cuteFTP. i went to the download page here on ep, then i copied the shortcut and pasted it in the "connect to URL" box on cute ftp. i got the error on all 30 attempts, i have the 30th attempt below.

    STATUS:> ============== Attempt #30 ==============
    COMMAN> USER anonymous
    331 Password required for anonymous.
    COMMAN> PASS *****
530 User anonymous cannot log in.
    ERROR:> Not logged in.
    ERROR:> Can't login. Disconnecting...

i have downloaded one other game from EP in this way.

also, if anyone knows where i can get a cuteftp tutorial that is for 6.0. the one here is 4.0 and i think the settings have changed. i dont see the screens it shows on the tutorial.
