Default FTP Client or Server problems? Post here. All other threads auto-closed

Do you have a problem setting up or accessing an ftp? Then heres the place to post.

Clients list.

[CoffeeCup FTP]
[Cute FTP]
[FTP Voyager]
[Smart FTP]

Server List.

[Bullet-Proof]
[Guild FTP]
[Serv-U]
[Titan FTP]

Clients are usually free, however most of the servers will require you register, however they're mostly not that expensive.

Added by Ace:

INTERNAL IP ADDRESSES

International Network Standard RFC 1918 reserves the following IP address ranges for Intranet use (i.e. they are internal addresses):

# 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255
# 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255
# 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255

Also, 127.0.0.1 is a loopip / localhost / your own PC / however you want to call it.

Okay what you've got to do is open ports in your router for your FTP server (most use 21). I suggest turning off XP's firewall and downloading one that lets your turn off and on individual ports.
Also make sure that the firewall is setup to allow both incoming and outgoing traffic.

first off let me apologize for not replying sooner..i been having comp probs...
ok now i do not have xp on my new computer. i am using win 2k. my old computer that had the ftp setup on there was win me. second of all, i already went into my router(dlink 4 port cable/dsl router(di-704p) ) the first time and configured it to work on my old comp. the prob is since both my computers are networked and share the same ip, how do i set up this compter properly to work with the ftp? btw, ports 20 and 21 are open on here.

p/s: thanks for the hep btw i appreciate it.

Can each computer see each other? Set up the FTP and see if one of the computers can download/upload off it, and then get someone to test if they can connect. They might share the same base IP but they won't be exact they'll be 111.111.111:7777 and
111.111.111:7778 that will be the trick to connecting to them.

Default FTP Question

1. How do I start an FTP?
2. Does it cost?
3. What are the best FTP Clients to use?

I know that this thread is probably gonna end up closed, but i couldn't find a thread similar so i decided to post. If I made a mistake posting this, then my apologies. Thanks!

I wonder if he'll know where the thread went

Anyway, download one of the clients from the client list in the first post of this topic. Some of them are free, and others you have to buy, but usually have trial versions. There should be no extra cost, unless your ISP charges by bandwidth or something. There should be help files or tutorials on the client's page, so you can figure out how to set it up.

I'd like to ask a question:
I'm a 56Ker, and let's say I am the server. Now, will the client be forced to get 56K speed even if he's on a faster connection, or will he get the same speed he usually gets with other downloads?

Thanks in advance.
