Default Internet is being an arse.

When I connect to the internet with my laptop nothing works. MSN wont sign in, IE, Opera, Netscape wont view web pages, Kazaa & Imesh wont connect. It's kinda like it's not connected to the internet. Does anyone know how to fix this? I've been playing with the modem & internet options for a while trying to fix it but I can't do it.

Do you have a firewall of some sort running (I think XP has a crap firewall which can stop all the stuff you mentioned from working)
*PSA* Wii Redump collector's can now unscrub ISO files. So scrubbed games can now be verified. You can find the program to do this here

Has a primary DNS and gateway been set?

How to check: start ==> run ==> command ==> ipconfig /all

Try Ipconfig /renew that should connect to the DHCP server (which almost all ISPs have as far as i know) and get all the info that's needed.

Nope, nothing changed when I put it in. *Hates laptop more*. I don't know why it's not working, the internet settings are exactly the same as this one. Is there any other ways to connect to the DHCP server?

this might not help too much, but in addition to ace's suggestion, try ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew

IPconfig should automatically release it once you type ipconfig /renew at least it does for me.

When i have probs i go to my network connections Start>Settings>Network Connections.. Then right click on my adapter.. See the status of it.. Then click the support tab and click the repair button.. Then it looks like this.. Maybe that will help..

EDIT: Never mind, that was a different thingy. I think I have to connect to the internet to repair my internet connection.

you should be able to see it from ipconfig
and this might give you more idea of finding it out.
