Default So apparently PS3 can play PS1 games...

I learned something new today that I didn;t know about earlier. While I know that there was PS2 backwards compatibility for certain versions of PS3, I had no idea that all version of the consoles can still play PS1 games. What I would like to know if what are cons of playing PS1 games on PS3? I know the system does have Memory cards or not every game supports Dualshock. I also want to know if I better off just using the PSN games where I can just upload my PS1 saves from my memory cards?

Better off having CFW and loading PSX bin/cue images. You can play translations that way, and you can play quite a few PS2 games (including translations) on CFW without having a BC console.

My fat was a 40GB originally, no BC at all. I've got PSX, PS2 and even PSP games on it. Not PSN pkg format these are images (bin/cue and iso).

    Edit:
Old thread I posted last year...
    https://www.epforums.org/showthread....supported-yet)

Exploit can be used on any fat or some early slims (up to 25xx but not all of that version, must be minver 3.56 OFW or lower).

I'm still using that same CFW (Rebug 4.81.2) but there's probably a slightly newer one available now. What I have works for everything I've been using on the console anyway (including dumping my own PS3 discs).

I guess you might be right but I wonder if you can somehow save your PS1/PS2 save files on the PS3?

PS1 and PS2 games have virtual memory cards on PS3.

I've just tested this, and...holy cow! After owning a PS3 for almost 4 years, I'm JUST NOW finding this out! lol! Sadly, I own one of the later versions that doesn't play PS2 games, but I have a working PS2 anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

What model PS3? It doesn't need to be a BC model if you use managunz you can play plenty of PS2 DVD iso, and PS2 CD bin/cue.

This model, a Super Slim, I believe it's called. I was a late adopter due to money issues before then, or I would've gotten one of the early versions.

Oh ok. Yeah you can't run full CFW on that but there's a HAN exploit that works on all models.

Platina like DeadLegion said you can still run ps2 as ps2 classic pkgs compatibility is not better than fat.

Do you need some CFW exploit to use the HAN one?

HAN isn't true CFW, it's technically closer to the 4.70 OFW backup injection exploit.
