Default Playing PS2 games, but I want to save space on my HDD

Can I just burn an ISO onto a blank DVD and run it off that? Or will it still install the DVD's contents onto my computer when I'm playing making it pointless? I know some PS3 and PS4 games do that, where they install the data onto the console's HDD.

Or maybe I can do something with my flash drive? Like have all the games I want on that, and just run the games off the drive? Or maybe temporarily move the games from the drive to my computer when I want to play. And then when I'm done, move it back to the drive. Or will that mess up the save files and such?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, I'm really clueless about this sort of stuff...

The PS2 didn't have a HDD. If you're using an emulator, you should be able to run games with a burned DVD but I can't tell you how the performance is compared to an ISO on HDD/SSD. You might consider getting a USB 3.0 flash drive and putting ISO's on that. That should run almost as well as a good quality HDD in your computer, but it's not a good option if you're playing games on a PS2 console as the USB slots on them are very slow.

Go ahead and use DVD 5 (4.7 GB) or 9 (8.5 GB) burnable media to play PS2 games on your computer, they will not install anything.

I do suggest a nice marker and a heafty disc binder for those discs though.
THE BEST METHOD to run PSX games (and everything else for that matter) is via Retroarch - http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/
If you have any questions on how to set it up on Windows please feel free to ask, its very easy.
