Default Mame 0.196 with 0.196 Mame roms set - Killer Instinct roms missing S:

I'm coming back to mame after a few years and have just downloaded mame64 build 0.196
and the rom split set 0.196

I know older versions worked with older mame builds, but I've looked all over the internet for a recent post about killer instinct and can't see anything. Does it not work with the latest mame?

when I try to load killer instinct one or two it shows a pop up with a few roms missing.
