I suggest getting a Vita and PSTV.
It great playing whatever psx game you want on tv with a PS4 controller.

Thanks for the advice. Actually, I'm more interested in the characteristics of the modded Vita to run games by itself. Portable PSX games are a long lasting dream I have. I tried emulators on both my tablet and phone but the lack of buttons is a really big deal for me. However I would like to check the screen performance (especially alising) before making plans.

Yeah emulating on a tablet or phone has always seemed kind of silly to me because of the buttons thing. I mean there are a few games where it doesn't matter much like some rpgs where all you do is choose menu options to attack etc like Final Fantasy. And what really gets me are people trying to connect controllers to them. Yeesh.

Finished AI easy run last night, only missed about 10 collectibles and one mission specific cheevo (I'll replay missions 4 and 16 to clean those up).

Exactly. However, a PSX emulator doesn't allow the use of the tablet/phone touch screen. Playing rpgs (especially turn-based) is easier because they usually don't require timing, but a soccer game (yeah, I am a girl and used to play Pro Evolution Soccer 2 on PSX all the time when I was younger, I still do sometimes for the old times' sake and it would be really awesome for me to play it portable) is unplayable that way. Bluetooth controllers may work, but then it's just like playing on tv, with a smaller tv (nevermind the battery usage).
