Well when you go get an 8-pack of beer here at 10.99 and it comes 15.25 that's pretty effing crazy. Provincial tax and then federal tax plus deposit and then whatever extra liquor taxes may be on it. It gets ridiculous. So just saying it would be nice if the price tag showed you exactly what you have to pay.

It's about showing a lower amount on the label so you are more likely to buy crap. Psychological trickery, just like posting $7.99 instead of $8.

It doesn't bother me as tax is included in the total price. I can totally understand Zal being annoyed with his example though.

Think we're one of the worst in the country, besides Quebec of course.

Tax on alcohol isn't excessively high here, but the tobacco tax is insane.

Pretty bad here too. 12-13 bucks a pack and that's just for budget brands.

I haven't bought tailors for years but yeah they're even more expensive than that here.
Ever since they started seriously taxing the stuff, selling black market cigs and tobacco has become more lucrative than weed.

I'm not saying that illegal tobacco is worth more than weed by weight, but there's a bigger market for tobacco and the risks for growers is much lower. In fact afaik police don't even actively look for illegal tobacco but they're constantly raiding/busting weed growers and suppliers.

Illegal tobacco is pretty big here. Native smokes we call em. 3-5 bucks a pack depending. But it tastes like your smoking fertilizer. I usually go for pouch tobacco and just roll my own.

Weed here is all but legalized now with that coming real soon and taxation on that about to start when it does. Bleh. More taxes.
