If you want fairly solid defence for your settlements give some settlers miniguns, you don't need to give them heaps of ammo it's unlimited for them as long as they at least have 1 round.
Companions have unlimited ammo for their original default weapon but any weapon you give them (and force equip) will have ammo limitations the same as you.

I don't recommend you give settlers fatmans

Before I started using mods I used to keep a set of Fashionable glasses, sequin dress, Pompadour wig for charisma checks. Unfortunately that was before I knew when to expect them so I never got to change my outfit for them and had never saved close to the convo.

man lifting the vale was a decently fun quest better than all those Pi/stalking quests.

Yeah turrets are good but aren't mobile. Settlers with good weapons don't add anything to your build limit.

I have a couple guard posts! One on the top of my house too, my roof extends a few tiles into the street and it's up there with a hidden ladder around back and have to almost platformer it Mario style to get there

As far as I know I haven't been attacked by anything yet. I'm still not far at all in the game if that makes a difference.

Just keep it in mind for later on, settlers don't need to be repaired either.
It's probably the best thing to use a minigun for imo.

Each settlement has 2-3 points where attacks come from. In Sanctuary they are near the bridge at the first house you can scrap, the far end near another house you can scrap, and the bridge to the vault. Build lots of turrets in the right spots and you really will never have to worry. If Defense > Food+water+power then you should almost never get attacks on that settlement regardless of where your turrets are. And if you get close to your Build limit you can throw a bunch of scrappable weapons/clothes/junk down and scrap it.

If you have more water than your population you can grab the excess Purified Water out of your workshop inventory and sell it for caps. Convenient once you can assign your settlers to vendor stands.

What DL said about fat man's also applies to missile turrets. Not great.

There was also the trick where you can build weapon/armor mods/food/chems you can't normally build by pressing the button to build and then selecting the next item on the list before the confirmation pops up, or you can use the mouse on PC to highlight anything on the list. So if you have one piece of meat from the dog past Sanctuary bridge, you can sit and make a ton of Mutant Hound Chops for +Heal -Rads

I think most exploits got patched on consoles. I was using the merchant ammo glitch on PS4 back when the game first came out, I amassed a heap of ammo of several types and then after it got patched I kept using that build to get all trophies.

I had an old thread way back which has some settlement happiness tips in it, probably out of date now...

    Neither did I.
I'm pretty happy about finding Forbidden Planet BD steelbook, it's embossed and fairly colourful. Even has the rear removable sheet.
Nothing special about anything else there though, although GTA2 PSX is complete and in GC.
The Fugitive DVD boxset is in as new condition, all 33 discs
