I was actually reading up on some stuff before, dude I know has some things to give away and I might grab a Xeon quad (lga771) cpu he has.
One of my desktops is lga775 (just a dual core atm) so I can mod that in to get a 3GHz quad...an adapter sticker will cost $1 (actually 4 of them iirc).
Graphics card is a headache though, I can't see any dirt cheap brand new options.
And when I mean cheap it isn't what master race types think is cheap (sub $200). I mean $50au or less for something better than integrated gfx.

Yeah a Quad will pop in nicely and you won't have to worry about Windows not seeing it. Actually what OS do you have on the lga775?


I picked up a GT 710 jesus fuck me, year and a half ago now? 70 bucks and will kill any integrated on either of those. Passive 2gb model I bought. The dedicated memory alone was worth it for me. I can run Civ 6 Rise and fall and that's pretty current. Albeit quite low settings.

The lga775 has G41 chipset and it's running win7 atm.
I'm not interested in changing to 10 or whatever, I don't want this for new games just to free up system ram and have a dedicated card.
Not going to bother about getting ram for the mb it isn't cheap enough, slots are filled with kingston pc3-10600 atm although it runs at 1066 afaik.

GT710 new doesn't seem to be easy to find now, and definitely over $50.
