    Default Graphics: PS2 vs DreamCast

It was last night when I noticed something in the shelf. Yes! Gaming Magazine!!! it was 2 years old.
they had many DC pics, so I was comparing them to other systems.
I noticed even the DC system was older than the PS2, but some games had better graphics than the PS2. heh, funny yeah? What do you think?

Playstation 2 has Final Fantasy X, which has better graphics than pretty much anything (ok, maybe not Shenmue...) the Dreamcast had... But for most games it's not too far ahead... I'd say PS2 overall, but not by a lot.

umm FFX has better graphics because it is a fixed camera game.. fixed camera games should only be compared to other fixed camera games... like the New Resident Evil Games.. on GCN..

Regardless, the comparison is between PS2 and DC... And Final Fantasy X, fixed camera or nay, does have great graphics.

I have a Dreamcast and a PS2 and after playing many games on both systems i'd say that the PS2 beats the DC in the graphics department... On the PS2 there is less slow down in graphics than on the DC...*Sega Rally 2* The PS2 has it advantages like more RAM to work with...

In some respects, the DC did actually outpass the PS2 in graphics capabilities. However, I agree with Cougerman in that they were never really taken advantage of because of the systems early death.

EDIT: Oops, forgot the part about the PS2. Uh... It's more powerful in most respects, so I'd guess it'd be able to de better things. Besides, since the most people make games for it I'd think they'd know how to make it go for its best...

the dreamcast can only produce 3 million polygons per second and the ps2 cn produce 16 million.(from what ive heard...) so i think that puts the ps2 over the dreamcast

Some Dreamcast are better then some PS2 (e.i. Unreal Tournament over games like Red Fraction), and vice versa.

C'mon guys, there's just no contest. The PS2 is a more powerful system then the DC was, and can push more poly's and effects on screen. When you say a certain DC game looks better then a certain PS2 game, it's not because the DC was capable of better graphics, but rather that the developers might not have pushed the PS2 as far as they possibly could with that given game. Another factor in this discussion is the fact that early in the PS2's lifespan, developers were just learning then in's and out's of the system and thus game's might not have lookes as good as they possibly could. Once developers started getting comfortable with the system, they've been able to pull some amazing graphics out of the thing. Anyone who's seen video of the upcoming Gran Turismo 4 will attest to that.

I think we all look into the systems in different ways. For one example:
Take N64 and PSX. In your opinion, which one has better graphics?
ok, so some may say PSX, while others may say N64, that's because if you look in it, as say, smooth edges, better textures, and stuff, the PSX beats N64. But the PSX lacks a little bit of stuff. Like the graphics can sometime be blurry, and not as bright as the N64. It's like the N64 have layers, making it hard to make round things (like a baskerball, Mario's hand in Mario 64) harder , because the N64 has 32 bits, or something like that? I don't know.

Back to the DC and PS2. The DC had some games ( I think most, but I don't know) where it's very polished, but there is not so many textures, while the PS2 has many textures, but still kinda rough (um, like blurry). But hey like Cyberxion said, time changes, and now the PS2 have much better graphics than thier first year.

Well, this might just be what I think.

There were very, very few DC games that come close to the standard set by some of the PS2's finest. In both the specifications and practice neither can come close to the PS2 effort. You could argue that Shenmue is on a par, but even that suffered from the Devil to playablities God; Slowdown.

For all those people who said the PS2 beats the DCv hands down, remember Soul Caliber...
