Default Which video game system has the best audio quality between these?

Please move this topic if it's in the wrong section.

    ---

Which of these systems has the best audio quality? If I was trying to rip the music from a video game disc, which system should the game be on?

    PlayStation 2 or GameCube?

    PlayStation 2 or Xbox?

    GameCube or Xbox?

    PlayStation 2 or Wii?

    Thanks in advance.

Not sure about audio but the gfx on Xbox are pretty much always superior.
Gamecube I suspect isn't even worth considering (unless there is a reason like exclusive audio data) as the discs are only around 1.4GB, so even if a game has 2 discs the maximum capacity is less than one DVD5.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure PlayStation systems are the best option.

You should ask Crash about that, I think PS2 might still used compressed audio. Xbox probably uses compressed audio too but I think it might use a variant of WMA capable of higher bitrates

From what I've heard, Xbox is harder to rip than PlayStation 2. I'm not sure if that means anything to your question, though, lol.

I'll see if I can ask him about that, too.

I'm not an expert but PS2 could be using something like AT3 (and it may be buried inside another file type), Xbox might use XMA (a variant of WMA) or something similar. Both require conversion and there are tools to deal with both situations.
Extracting contents of Xbox games technically shouldn't be more difficult than PS2. The vast majority of games are already in files/folder format so you don't even need to extract from iso. But even if you've got an iso as source extracting it is easy.

Xbox > PS2 > GameCube = Wii in most cases

Wii and GameCube only have analog audio outputs, while Xbox and PS2 have digital outputs, and Xbox has Dolby Digital for most games, from Dolby Digital 5.1 or 4.0.
Though most PS2 games are only PCM 2.0, with Dolby Pro Logic/II optional, though the Final Fantasy games were Dolby Digital EX 6.1, and 6.1 sound isn't something that's on Xbox games.
Plus, PS2 can do DTS for gaming while Xbox can't.

Are there any PS2 games that had DTS audio though?
Anyway, different dolby digital etc formats doesn't matter so much it's bitrate which is more important.

Gamecube shouldn't figure into any comparison (for multi platform titles) because even a two disc game is smaller size than one DVD5 disc.

Grand Theft Audio: Vice City was DTS.
