I responded to this in the original thread but ended up deleting it so that doesn't fly too far off point. The hangout could use the activity anyway

I hear that. My experience with indies is that they've felt lacking and don't tend to get supported long enough or well enough to refine them.

I haven't been able to back any personally (except maybe satalite reign) like on a kickstarter page or anything but the ones i have followed have mostly pulled through with what they promised so far Haydee, BallisticNG, Satalite Reign (Although i do wish they'ed stuck with the syndicate wars way of doing things but it was still pretty good...), Smashing the Battle...

Not to say i havent had big middle fingers...Carmageddon reincarnation (And although i backed that on steam early access, got no cool car and got handed max edition for free, its all moot point as they were forced todo it, it was not done because ya know IT HAD BEEN PAID TO BE DONE they did it because the PC crowd was out for their blood....and it flopped on the console XD), system shock is another but its nightdive, i had little faith from the start and finally .....well i dare not speak its name V_V

Ah, actually yes one more giant "Fuck you" from the "indie" scene....Constructor's remake. They did EXACTLY the same thing stainless did with Carma, they kept the PC crowd happy, sponged, drained, sucked and squeezed ALL the money from them, then went "Ya' know what...consoles are SO much better, we're making this for them now ^^" and ruined the pc versions. Both console releases flopped, both companies tried crawling back to the P.C. community, although contructor's public relations person by the name of bright paw is beyong patronizing and still insults the pc crowd...so their way of doing it was more along the lines of "Well pffff we don't HAVE to be here you know, we don't HAVE To keep making these DLCs to charge for you but ya know, you could atleast damn well help us I MEAN WE ARE MAKING THE GAME YOU LOVE"............................................. ..............hmmmm......

I am seeing a scientific einstein level formula here!!! Porn + indie = good....old school game remade into newish game = good.....porn game mixed with old school game REMADE into new game = MONEH! Gentlemen...WE HAVE THE BASIS OF ALL INDIE LIFE!

I consider indie different from independent.

Indie = low budget low effort cash out
Independent = Serious effort at making a good game under time and budget constraints

Satellite Reign looks like I'd consider it the latter rather than the former.

*eh-heh-hem*......they lied about changing it into bioshock, they lied about simplifying it, they lied about the soundtrack, the lied about the rewards, they lied about it being PC first and above all else they fucking lied about the soundtrack......to me it needs to be said twice.

Now i shall go indepth XD The controls are exactly like bioshock, slugish...I forgave that because it was made with console in mind first, as much as that pains me to say, this wasn't. THis was ment to be "making the original better!" Again, they got the P.C. crowd to fund them they middle fingered us and now its gonna be released on xcawk/ps4 first and i know most people will hate it because it has an old school map....its more maze like than doom, its dark, its hard to navigate its ONLY for people who like to find secrets....old school format and trying to make it appeal to new players it isn't going to work and it just infuriates the people who HAVE Funded them.

They promised a dynamic, old school like midi infused soundtrack if they got enough money.....they gave us bioshock's violins, "moody moosic!" and dubstep.....looooots and looooots of dub step...not even drum and bass, just dubstep...............and no it doesn't play dynamically either. Other people may like it but to me this is exactly why star insurance bought the rights all those years ago, to stop this shit happening.....and they regret it now from what i hear.....

Yeah thats a good way of putting it XD much like indie music tbh ^^
I would recommend reign not just as a syndicate fan but a strat fan too. It's hard but i enjoyed myself and won't spoil it but the ending is.....powerfull. Infact, deadlegion i don't suppose you heard much about Reign did you? It was made in australia and apprently they got NOOOOOTHING but drama from the censors, wondering it its another that got no rating there.

Ah yeah forgot to say this XD
This is how the original SS1 soundtrack plays and how often it will change
Player moves around, picks a couple of calm parts to loop (slightly different depending on walking or running)
    Player high/medium/low hp
    Player in battle
    player coming out of battle
    enemy taking dmg
    enemy distance from player
    map area based
    key item pick up...

    and more!

and it was double fuck you because their crappy system shock enhanced edition? It isn't enhanced XD infact the soundtrack will never play properly again, they deleted most of its dynamic portions which is why over half the composition for both cyberspace and the groves doesn't play...it isn't there anymore. They could have left it in for us people who have synths but "naaaaaaah, it wasn't needed...wasnt causing any problems but ya know fuck you our version we stole the mouse mod we stole chicajos midi tracks to and we stole the free system shock flacs that got handed out to the community, FUCK YOU ALL AND BUY OUR REMAKE ^^"

What a load of crap . Not doing actual MIDI makes sense because of how involved it would be, what a turd alternative though.

Obsidian has their faults but I give them a lot of credit for NOT pissing time and resources into a console version of PoE during development. Torment: ToN ended up doing the opposite and support console versions and it shows.

I think movies are a better comparison now but yeah, pretty much.

ohhh no no no i get not using PROPER Midi like in the old days, BUT at the same time midi is still used in so many things to this day man. Any electronic music you listen to is using midi somewhere along the way from a synth to a keyboard, infact ANYTHING that uses a soundfont ...that is what they promised fast paced stuff, technological, industrial (infact ALL industrial music still uses midi! ) all that kind of thing with that type of hardware and thought pattern in mind...just updated....and yeah they lied and we got violins and skrillex style dubstep....so not dubstep atall (proper dubstep is like raggae dub and makes for great smoking music XD).
