I'm guessing if you try Tolkien's The Silmarillion or maybe Asimov's more prominent series of books you'd be bored to tears as well

    Dostoyevsky?

Don't get me wrong that is a great flick...but classic Japanese movies like that are much like some anime. Full of sensationalism, obviously more relevant to that particular culture.

Harakiri is another great film although not as old as Seven Samurai and not as long either.

The Silmarillion is barely functional honestly. But I read it back in my teens. Old scifi like Aasimov I never really bothered with. In general I don't read a bunch of novels to be fair.

Anyway it's not a terrible movie I just wasn't in the mood for it.

Lawrence of Arabia is a steaming pile compared to Asimov.

Well it wasn't ment to be a storybook, more a bestiary of what is in middle earth (tolkien also died before it was finished and his son took over )

I always thought the Tolkien Bestiary was a more interesting read.

The Dune from the 80s is also very much a David Lynch film. It's too bad the miniseries didn't have the same kind of budget and such.
