    Question Formatting Memory Card

Whenever I launch a game from Dolphin Emulator (so far it's only been spider man 2 and metal gear solid twin snakes) it tells me I need to format my memory card, now, in my experience that means everything is deleted, and I don't want that, what should I do?

Have you gone ahead and formatted it and it still asks or haven't done it yet because you have other saved games you want to keep? - for the latter you could just copy the memcard file or rename it to something else to save what you already have, The default folder is in my documents\dolphin\gc.

You can also use another memcard for slot B I think by default it's left blank - options configure -gamecube - slot B and select mem card from the drop down menu.

The main reason for this is mostly different region games (Ntsc/Pal) so it needs a new mem card when switching regions.

Yeah if you format it it will erase everything. But you can save the mem card file that Dolphin uses (backup basically) you could copy and paste it somewhere else for example. Then you could format the card.

Edit: Have you tried slot B?

Okay, here's where I'm confused, does the format erase everything on my entire computer? or does it just erase a certain folder

No no just your saved games for Dolphin. Which is why I said back it up if you have any saves you want to keep. It just erases 1 file.

If this is your first time using Dolphin then def go ahead and do it.

so why do u think it doesn't move it to a new folder so it doesn't get deleted. I'm sure people have deleted a game file or two on accident because they forgot to move a file. so to be clear we need to manually move the saved file before starting a different game or each game saves the game differently and it doesn't delete the other games file? Hope that question is clear?
Also does anyone know how to set where the saved files go in dolphin?

Each game saves to the memory card (usually found in Slot 1; some games can save to either slot though.) Just one format is required to make the card read/write-able for all the games you'd ever want to put there.

    also, for save data:
