amiga emulator problem

Hi I just discovered emuparadise today and downloaded the amiga emulator "winfellow". but I can't get the games started. I unzipped the rom files in a folder then in winfellow put the adf files in df0 and df1 but when I select start emulation it says:"specified kickImage does not exist". This has happened in more than one game. Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thank you, I tried downloading kickstart disks in google but winfellow won't see them because they are not adf. I can't get it to work, can you give me a link please.

Kickstart is not a disk it is a rom chip (to be exact it is a bootstrap firmware) you will need several versions that cover what system the emulator supports

Not used what you are using myself but it should tell you where the kickstart roms should be stored and what they should be named in some sort of readme or help option

Kickstart is not an OS either by the way that would be Workbench that is an OS and is on diskettes

Visited the developer's website and found out that kickstart roms are sold, not free...Total disappointment. I'm giving up on this...

ok let me put it this way strickly speaking you should be dumping your own kickstart rom

selling those roms is illegal unless they are authorised to do so then again so is downloading them if you do not own the original hardware

this goes for all game roms also this does not mean that is the only way to get those

Had a bit of a play round with this emulator for all it's seems very basic it is a pain in the butt to get going I first edited the bios ini files round a bit changed the crc values and changed the kickstart file names round but this did not help I eventually looked at the config and found a place to manually point out the bios and away it went but to me they have tried to make it user friendly and failed, but I did use the bios pack from the link above

WinUAE might be a better option and an older well established option, saying older it was updated last month

Once you get the hang of it look at Aiab that is just cool to be honest

Thanks a lot for your help Zorlon. But I still can't figure it out. You see I'm quite ignorant on this emulator stuff. I checked the link you gave but as I've said before I need adf files to put in disk drives like "DF0" "DF1" these kickstart roms are not adf. Can you be more specific step by step. Remember I'm a newbie.

Winfellow is over complicated even though there attempt was to make it simplified



EDIT better option sorry it's been years since I looked at Amiga emulation over a decade ago

1 run WinUAE
2 Hit Paths
3 set the System ROMs path to point to the folder that you extracted the Amiga bios files to

Just use quick start from there on out

I haven't messed with Amiga emulation on the PC in a while, but when I did, WinUAE was easily the best option, and I found a lot of invaluable info on the setup on YouTube.

Just picked the first video, you can find more in depth tutorials.

Crashes in what way and what game/s are you talking about?

Chances are you are trying to emulate a game for the wrong system version as in using A500 settings for a A1000 game or something like that or just needs more emulated ram than what you have setup

You might want to try emulating something a bit more basic to start with like Megadrive or SNES

I used amiga games I found in this site for the WinUAE application. I'm not sure where to find amiga games strictly for WinUAE. Again, can you give a link

Again what exact games and in what way does it crash?

Some diskettes may require Workbench to run also, this is considered the Amiga OS

I tested Cadash and it worked fine, actually worked fine in both emulators I just like WinUAE a lot more, it is more user friendly.

I tried "moonstone" and "defender of the crown" "Alien 3" I downloaded from this site(emuparadise)

All of them fail right after the game starts. It says "WinUAE has stopped working"

Alien 3 also just works

not tested moonstone but I have played that via WinUAE also

P.S. I only installed this to test for you

http://www.winuae.net is the official emulator site, though they will never store rom or diskette images

Edit even Moonstone just works...
