    Default PSX Burn Speeds

I own a modded PS2 (fat) and I noticed that certain PSX games only run for me in certain speeds. For example, Persona Innocent Sin only worked with 10x, while Mortal Kombat only worked with 24x. I currently burn my Verbatim CD-Rs using a Mac SuperDrive and the speed options that it gives me are: 4x, 10x, 16x, 20x, 24x. However, going through trial and error for each disc is a pain, especially for multi-disc games. I have over 40 duds, which is a total waste of discs and money. Is there any sure-fire way of knowing which speed will work with any given disc?

Your verbatim discs may not be of high quality. Brand doesn't mean so much since so-called "good" brands can have cheaper discs sourced from cheap manufacturers.
Not sure about CD-R now but I know verbatim (among others) have used the likes of CMC in the past for DVD media, there are other bad disc manufacturers too eg Moser Baer (they're Indian iirc).

    Spoiler warning:

The burning speed is not per game it just depends on your hardware most cases lowest speed for the burner is the best to go far but this is not true of all burning hardware (then is when the trial an error comes in to play once you know the best all round speed to use, you can use that for all your burning needs)

Also the burning speed for CD's and DVD's is always different

As above for brands, brands = nothing it is where they are made that makes the difference unfortunately that is something you tend to find out once you crack open the blank discs
